A Fair, Green Economy

More than ever, Britain needs to change the way our economy works. 
 
It is unfair that bankers get million pound bonuses while essential public services face years of cutbacks caused by the financial crisis.  
 
We need to create jobs that will last, by promoting green technologies that will generate wealth for the country and tackle climate change. 
 
The Lib Dems would create 100,000 jobs insulating schools and the homes of a million pensioners. This would cut carbon emissions and mean that pensioners would have lower heating bills and would not have to choose between heating their homes and putting food on the table. It’s a scandal that more deaths are caused by winter cold in Britain than anywhere else in Europe – including Scandinavia! 
 
Here in Cambridge, local hi-tech industry would get an enormous boost if the government gave proper backing to renewable energy. Our local science-based industry is already leading the way in green technology. But the government needs to back renewable technologies boosting markets for the new products and creating jobs for graduates.
